The Rightsizing Program? I’m not sure that I fully understand the business sense behind it. I mean, the dynamics of these processes can be rather complicated if you don’t have a formal business training. However, I believe our top management is doing the right thing and it is our duty in HR to be the forerunners of any large scale change initiative.
CMO-s secretary Carla Brooks was one of the first ones to comply with the new Rightsizing Program guidelines and noticed fast increase in the usage of company’s library that she was also responsible for.
After hearing the explanation of the Rightsizing Program the Head of HR didn’t even ask questions but immediately lifted her skirt a bit higher.
- Is that better now, Adam?
- You are most understanding, Cynthia.
- Not at all, I appreciate a boss who is so passionate about our products. This being a stockings company with long traditions it is your duty to ask for such changes. I think the Rightsizing Program is something that was long overdue here.

Here’s an excerpt from Adam Goodfeel’s memo circulated in the company: Employees should be the advocates of the goods their employer produces and have a chance to proudly demonstrate they are using them on daily basis. In order to keep the rules clear and universal the shorter skirt standard won’t be waived even on hot summer days when the employees are not required to wear stockings. Since the business situation is dire I hope you all understand the urgency of this change.
CEO of the stockings company subsidiary, Mr Adam Goodfeel stared at an obscure memo from the headquarters. It stated that the business wasn’t going too good and it was time for all the subsidiaries to prepare the rightsizing programs.
Adam had no idea what was meant by rightsizing program. ‘Do they want me to cut my staff?’ he was thinking for a moment. ‘No that, can’t be, I already have too high workload here. What then? If the business is not good it means people are not buying our stockings. Why? Not popular probably. Not in fashion?’ At that moment his secretary Kelly caught his eye.
- Kelly, do you wear the stockings produced by our company?
- Of course, sir!
- But how would I know it?
- Well, I don’t know, do you want me to … umm… lift my skirt to prove it?
- Please be so kind. Very nice! Kelly, haven’t you ever thought your skirt could be too long. I mean, there’s no way for the by-passer to know you are wearing our stockings without asking?
‘If even our own employees wouldn’t proudly display our goods in public why would we expect the trend of wearing stockings to catch on?’ Adam continued his thinking. ‘That’s it! The Rightsizing program!’
